1st Quarter 2009

 

JANUARY 2009

The January meeting for the Col. Benjamin Cleveland Chapter was held on Thursday Jan. 8th at 6:30 pm The Cleveland Elks Lodge with 32 members and six guest in attendance, The speaker for the evening was Judge Van Deacon who gave us inspiring presentation  on Constitutional Law, given members insight into the historical origins of our constitutional law back to the Magna Carta and early common law.

Stan Evans inducted two new members Compatriot Harlan White and Adam Lewis and gave us the report on the Wreaths Across America at the Chattanooga National Cemetery were on Dec. 21 2008 Col. Benjamin Cleveland Chapter the Hiwassee Chapter the John Sevier Chapter Local DAR Chapters and the Civil Air Patrol help place 1022 wreaths on our Veteran Graves.

Five year pins were given to David Hicks and Brian Webb, Compatriot John Echerd invited the Chapter to the 83rd annual George Washington Banquet on Feb. 13 2009 hosted by the John Sevier Chapter of the TNSSAR.

On January 15 2009 President Hicks and his wife Donnalee, Stan Evans and James Stone and Claude Hardison attended the Hiwassee Chapter Annual Dinner at the Springbrook Country Club in Niota, TN. President Hicks gave the Benediction.

On January 24th 2009 the Tennessee SAR board of governors meeting, at the University Club of Nashville at Vanderbilt University, Attending were David Hicks, Stan Evans, and Claude Hardison.

February 2009

Col. Benjamin Cleveland Chapter TNSSAR February meeting was held on Feb. 12 2009 @ 6:30 pm at the Cleveland Elks Lodge with 38 members and 6 guests. With our speaker being the Chief of police for the city of Cleveland Compatriot Wesley Snyder his presentation was on the status of the Department and were he would like the direction to be in the further.

Honorary Oklahomans certificates were presented to Compatriots State Rep. Kevin Brooks and Stan Evans the certificates were signed by the Gov. of Oklahoma. Compatriot Brooks also presented to the Chapter one of 300 framed lithograph of the 1819 Declaration of Independence that has been in his family, we will display it at all Chapter meetings on an easel next to our rare lithograph of President George Washington.

Compatriot Phil Newman brought a clay model of the statue we are planning for the city of Cleveland of Colonel Benjamin Cleveland the local artist is Joshua Coleman the projected cost of the statue is in the $50,000 too $60,000 dollar range.

 Compatriot and Honorable Judge Larry Puckett of our Chapter was given the Law Enforcement Medal for his work as a Judge in the 10th Judicial District that serves Bradley, Poke, Monroe and McMinn counties. Judge Puckett was our Chapter Chaplin for the past five years.

On February 13 2009 The Chapter attended the George Washington Birthday Celebration with TNSSAR President Colby Morgan as the speaker,  was a great program terrific food and lots of fun for all that attended, The Celebration was hosted by the John Sevier Chapter of the Tennessee Society.

End of January and February the Benjamin Cleveland Chapter visited all the schools in Bradley County one or two Compatriots were in Revolution dress the student and teacher really love the Stories told about Col. Cleveland and the battle of Kings Mountain, The Books we passed out was a gift from the Arthurs family Stephens O. Addison “Profile of a Patriot” Col. Benjamin Cleveland Hero of Kings Mountain.

February 21 2009 President Hicks and Stan Evans drove over to Fayetteville, TN for the organization meeting of the Joseph Greer Chapter, President Elect William Eubank rode over with us this looks to be a great new Chapter, We are planning on attending the Charter Banquet on March the 28 2009 in Lynchburg, TN.

MARCH 2009

The March Meeting for the Col. Benjamin Cleveland Chapter was held on March 12 2009 at the Cleveland Elks Lodge  at 6:30 pm the programs for the meeting was a Eagle Scout Award and Essay  and a CAR youth Essay by Miss Sarah Hood, A Bronze Good Citizenship medal was awarded to the family of the Late Patriot Lawrence German a great dinner and a great discussion on the Col. Benjamin Cleveland statue with Compatriots William Spencer, Larry Puckett, Bobby Taylor, Maggie and Stan Evans, Tommy McLain and chaired by 1st Vice President Phil Newman for the fund raising Committee. 36 members and 7 quests attended the meeting.

We are planning on attending the Charter Banquet on March the 28 2009 in Lynchburg, TN.  TNSSAR Board of Governors Meeting in Memphis on April 3-4, 2009.
